A comforting and cheesy casserole made with layers of ground beef, potatoes, and melty cheese, perfect for family gatherings.

- 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 5–6 medium russet potatoes (thinly sliced, about 1/8 inch)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella (optional, for extra meltiness)
- 1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for greasing the dish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Sauté the onions in olive oil or butter until translucent, then add the ground beef and cook until browned.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Mix in the cream of mushroom soup and milk, stirring until well combined.
- Prepare the potatoes by thinly slicing them.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish, followed by half of the meat mixture and one cup of cheddar cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with cheese on top.
- Bake covered with aluminum foil for 40 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
Allow the casserole to cool for 10 minutes before serving. This dish pairs well with a green salad or roasted vegetables.
