Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 lemon (zested and juiced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: soy sauce or teriyaki sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, wrapping it in a towel and placing something heavy on top for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Cube the pressed tofu into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Toss the cubed tofu with cornstarch, salt, and pepper in a bowl until evenly coated.
  4. Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the tofu cubes in a single layer for 5-7 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and repeat.
  6. Add fresh basil leaves, lemon juice, and zest; cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve hot, drizzled with soy sauce or teriyaki sauce if desired.
